Aizawl, Sept 8: Industries Minister H.Rohluna today inaugurated the 3-day Aizawl Handloom Fair organised at Assembly Annexe building here in Aizawl city.
Speaking at the inauguration programme presided over by Mizoram Apex Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Ltd. (MAHCO) Chairman Zohmangaiha and graced by Cooperation Secretary Jack L. Darkim, Industries Minister H.Rohluna Minister highly appreciated the beautiful products of the Mizo weavers exhibited at the Fair.
“It is a grand success that we now export our products to neigbouring states like Manipur from where we used to import handloom products”, the Minister said.
Highlighting the initiatives of the government, Industries Minister said that Cluster Development Project has been started in Sawleng and Thenzawl and over Rs. 300 lakhs has been received from the Centre.
Skill Development training is being carried out and experts are stationed at the recently inaugurated Weaver Service Centre (WSC), he added.
The under-construction Apparel and Garment Production Centre building at Industrial Growth Centre, Luangmuala is expected to be opened soon, the Minister said.
Exhorting the local weavers, Minister H. Rohluna urged the local weavers to come out with for good quality products.
Good quality products that bring satisfaction to the buyers would surely fetch good market, the Minister said.
The Minister said that success rate has been low in spite of the introduction of handloom industry quite long ago among the Mizos, the main reason being lack of perseverance.
However, those who have persevered and worked with diligence turn out successful, he said.
Also speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary Joseph Lalhimpuia said that step is being taken for patent of the Mizo handloom products under Intellectual Property Rights.
