Aizawl, Aug 28: Former Minister of State Lal Thanzara who had resigned recently from the cabinet as well as a legislator in the wake of the allegation of conflict of interest, said that he was not reluctant to be sent to jail if evidence showing he received money from a firm was able to be produced.
Addressing a special block conference of Aizawl North-III Congress Committee on Thursday, former legislator from Aizawl North-III Lal Thanzara reiterated that he did not get money from ‘Sunshine Overseas’ despite holding shares in the firm. “ I am ready to go to jail provided the evidence corresponds to the allegation that I received money from the firm is produced by those who held the allegation”, he said.
Lal Thanzara said that he had been accused of holding plethora of share in Sunshine Overseas involving crores of money by MNF youth wing and Legal Cell. The opposition youth wing also accused him of giving undue favour to the company for various contract worth crores of money under PWD, the department which he share with his brother Lal Thanhawla. “Despite clarifying my stand over holding of share in Sunshine Company, the MNF youth wing continue raining attack on me intimidating that it will not target the entire congress leaders but only two. The youth wing has even wanted to go the extend of holding total bandh over the allegation as I was told by some reliable persons from MNF”, Lal Thanzara said, adding that he finally tendered the resignation to preserve the dignity of Congress party and to prove that he did not run after money as being a minister.
He added that his resignation was not prompted by the feeling of fear and insecurity as the allegation was baseless and false.
Former Health Minister also said that his owned factory HP Food Product along with some non-Mizo friends has been supplying high protein biscuits under Social Welfare Department since PC ministry. “The factory was established by me and was registered in my name. I have been supplying nutrients under Social Welfare Department from the period taken from PC regime – MNF rule to the present day”, he said, adding that he has to step down from his esteem position so as to allow himself to be booked if he had done something illegally wrong.
