Aizawl, Aug 19: India Water Week was today inaugurated here in a programme held at I & PR Auditorium. One-day seminar with the theme ‘Hamara Jaal Hamara Jeevan’ (Our Water Our Life) was also organised on the occasion.
The Week Inauguration programme was organised by District Level Organising Committee on India Water Week 2015.
Inaugurating the Week, Dr. Franklin Laltinkhuma, IAS, Aizawl DC and Chairman of the Organising Committee underlined the need of water conservation and the need to make everyone aware of the same.
India Water Week is held every year since 2012 with a selected theme and Workshops and Seminars are also organised during the week, he said.
The gathering at the Seminar studied different topics like ‘Available Water Resources’ prepared by Er. K. Lalsangzuala, SDO, Minor Irrigation, ‘Water Demand/Use/Deficit’ prepared by Er. Peter C. Lalchhuanmawia, EE PHE and ‘Need & Method of Water Conservation’ prepared by Laltanpuia Varte, District Officer, S&WC Department.
The theme of the Seminar “Our Water Our Life” mainly aims at conservation of existing water sources and keeping them clean; improvement and uplift of societal life; Imparting instruction and guidelines to the people through Scientists, Engineers and Water-related Departments; Giving awareness to the people through Schools and other Institutions; and cooperation with NGOs like MUP, MHIP, YMA and Village Councils in the initiatives for water conservation.
