Aizawl, Aug 24: Mizoram Assembly speaker on Monday said that former Minister of State Lal Thanzara who had resigned from the cabinet as well as a legislator recently did not break the constitution in what the opposition allegation that he held “office of profit”.
Speaking to media in a press meet, Speaker Hiphei said that he did not find any violation of constitution by Lal Thanzara on issue of office of profit. “I did not find the violation of article 102 and 191 of the constitution by Lal Thanzara over holding office of profit as alleged by the opposition. As far as my knowledge, he resigned from the cabinet and MLA than just become the victim of baseless allegation”, the speaker said.
Citing about the resignation, Hiphei said, “I thought it was better to accept the resignation as quickly as desired by the minister because I felt sympathy for him for wearing dirty cloth”.
Denying the rumour that Lal Thanzara has fear for which he submitted resignation to Deputy Speaker for quick acceptance, Speaker Hiphei said he authorized the deputy speaker to accept the resignation at the interest of the minister. “The minister did not have fear over the allegation”, he added.
The speaker said the he did not find any conclusive evidence from Lal Thanzara doing illegal things which could compel him to resign as a legislator. According to him, the resignation as a legislator was accepted at the interest of the minister as his resignation from the cabinet had been accepted by the Chief Minister.
Hailing Lal Thanzara, Hiphei said he was a role model for other as far as individual life and development work for a state are concerned. Lal Thanzara maintained good principle within himself and he was instrumental in developing the state, he said, adding that the quick reaction from Lal Thanzara in tendering his resignation solely because he can no longer bear the baseless allegation has clarified that he is a good Christian.
The assembly speaker is hopeful that the regular budget will be able to be passed in the next assembly session.
