Aizawl, Sept 1: The main opposition party in Mizoram, Mizo National Front (MNF) on Tuesday strongly slammed Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh led Manipur government for unleashing violence in Chanrachandpur district of Manipur which led to the death of 6 tribal civilians during a protest rally on Monday and asked central intervention to find out the main reason behind the killing of innocents.
MNF in a statement said that ignoring mass agitation called by tribal student bodies, the government of Manipur on Monday passed three bills against the interest of hill people which ultimately led to the eruption of violence in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Slamming O.Ibobi led Congress government, MNF said while it appear violence as likely to be erupted, Congress legislators and Ministers were sat in silence during the assembly session paying indifference to the students demands. Moreover, the measure taken by Manipur government to quell the agitation was not completely secure.
The main opposition in Mizoram demanded that the central along with Manipur government must intervene to find out the reason behind the killing of innocents during protest rally as the government suppressive measure seems to be completely insecure.
MNF also expressed sadness over the eruption of violence and killing of 6 Zo-ethnic tribal following the passing of three bills including ‘The Manipur People Protection Act, 2015’ which set 1951 as the base year to identify non-indigenous people, who are regarded as outsiders by a section.
