Aizawl, Aug 30: The whole of Mizoram along with people of Chhingchhip in Serchhip district was shrouded in panic and shock when the dead bodies of two sisters, aged three and six years, were recovered near their home at Chhingchhip village in Serchhip district on Friday evening.
The heinous crime was soon went viral on social media after the two siblings were suspected to be raped and killed when the parents were working in a jhum land.
A six year old Mary Lalremruati and her 3-year old sister Maria Vanlalhmangaihi, the two daughters among 7 children of Kawldingliana and Vanlalmawii were allegedly raped and then brutally killed by a 18-year old drugs user identified as Lalchhantluanga (18) S/o Malsawmi, Chhingchhip venghlun, police said.
The incident occurred on last Friday when the parents were working in jhum land at Chhingchhip, a village in Serchhip district about 80 km from the state capital Aizawl.
On reaching their home from field the parents Kawldingliana and Vanlalmawii found that their 3 children including a boy were out of their home. When finding that their tin- roofed home was ransacked and their son who had just returned home after playing with friends outside informed them that he was not with his sisters, a massive search was launched in the neighbourhood.
On being informed, Serchhip police rushed to the scene and joined the search in the course of which the elder sister Mary was found lying naked in a garden behind their home around 7 pm Friday. The dead body of her younger sister Maria was also found in a sack bag wrapped with bedsheet.
Eye witnesses said that the two sisters sustained severe injury on their heads and other organs possibly being beaten with a stick.
During the investigation being launched to nab the culprit, the police rounded up 4 people, of which an 18-year-old boy Lalchhantluanga purchase neurontin online became the prime suspect behind the brutal murder after a blood stained T-Shirt possibly belonged to him was recovered inside a school bag dropped by him after stealing.
After massive and intense search operation, the culprit was nabbed by leaders of YMA around 7 pm on last Saturday when he broke into a house rented by a non-Mizo at Chhingchhip, Mualpui. Learning that the culprit has been arrested, the angry mob gathered in multitude around YMA office located below Mualpui bazaar building and asked the leaders to hand him over to them for mob lynch. During a tussle ensued between police and the angry mob, some had even broke the wall of YMA office and beaten the culprit. After along clash that lasted for more than 6 hours, the police somehow managed to bring the culprit to Aizawl around 2 am to escape the wrath of the villagers. No untoward incident or interception from public was encountered during en route to Aizawl, police said.
On being interrogated, the culprit Lalchhantluanga confessed that he took the elder sister to nearby house which was under construction where he raped and killed her. He had also killed the younger sister as she witnessed the whole crime. A blood stained rod with which the culprit had beaten the two siblings was also recovered, police said. Sources said that Lalchhuantluanga is known to be a drug-user — mostly he sniffed glue (dendrite) — and has been caught for stealing money several times before.
The culprit Lalchhuantluanga was brought to Aizawl around 5 am on Sunday. After giving first aid at Aizawl Civil Hospital, he was taken to Aizawl police station for interrogation from where he was sent to Centrail jail on the same day, sources said. He was booked under section 302 of the IPC .
