Aizawl, Oct 25: A 12 hour total bandh was called in Lunglei city jointly by Lunglei District Auto rickshaw Driver Association and Owners Association in protest against the government order to close right door of auto rickshaw as safety measure.
The total bandh will be observed on Monday from 5 am to 5 pm in the whole of Lunglei town.
Speaking to reporters, Lunglei District Auto rickshaw Owners Association president R. Vanlaldika said the proposed total bandh is being called in protest against the government decision to regulate closing of right door or making not openable legally mandatory for all auto rickshaw vehicles.
The association had earlier organized vehicular strike in the town in protest against the government order. Lungeli DC Ashish Madhaorao More, IAS and Zosangliana, SP also asked the leaders of the associations to cancel the total bandh as it would affect public life. The decision of organising total bandh ultimately came as the government did not give positive response to the initial strike. “After the consultation meeting with various auto stand welfare associations, we have finally decided to organise total bandh in protest against the government decision and in a demand to revoke its order”, R. Vanlaldika said. Meanwhile, state transport minister John Rotluangliana, during the recently concluded assembly session, had said that the government has no intention to review its order of imposing right door close on auto rickshaw as safety measure.
