Aizawl, Oct 29: Barely two weeks after Baptist church building, allegedly constructed on disputed land at Bawngkawn was damaged by the angry mobs, church properties including the Holy Bible belonging to three denominational churches in Serchhip town, about 112 km away from the state capital Aizawl had been defiled and vandalized in a single night by suspected Satan worshipers on late Tuesday, police said.
Reacting fast to the heinous incident, Serchhip Police has arrested 19- year old accused identified as Krossengmawia on Wednesday. He was the resident of Serchhip’s Darnam locality. On being interrogated, the accused admitted to the crime and said that he used to worship a devil. He however, told police that he had no accomplice and that he ransacked the churches alone.
Police said that three churches belonging to Moria church of Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), Elim church of United Pentecostal Church, North East India and Ramthar church of UPC, Mizoram were ransacked on late Tuesday night defiling and destroying some properties including the Holy Bible.
Korssengmawia confessed that he first broke into Ramthar church around 2 am on Tuesday where he burnt the Holy Bible placed at pulpit and damaged some important documents including pastor visitor record book.
Thereafter the devil worshiper entered Moria church and torn off the Holy Bible and song book. He also placed three coins at the altar in three corners indicating satanic signs and damaged decorative flowers being placed at pulpit. The miscreant admitted that he stole Rs 450 of the church offering which he used for liquor and took out some candle which he put infront of the church.
The accused went on ransacking another church belonging to United Pentecostal Church, North East India where he drenched the Holy Bible and scattered two drums (used in worship service) and 10 steel plates on the floor. He encircled the small drum with plate, wrote the word ‘NIC’ and sign of two encircled stars on song book to indicate satanic sign, he revealed.
Krossengmawia told police that he used to worship devil and that he vandalized the churches to show his idiosyncrasy.
The accused was booked under section 448/457/427/295 of the IPC. He was detained by Sercchip police for further interrogation.
