Aizawl, Oct 1: The wait is over now. Anthurium Festival, 2015 has got underway from today as Governor Lt.Gen(Rtd.) Nirbhay Sharma inaugurated it at its venue-Lengpui Mini Sports Complex on the outskirt of Aizawl. Anthurium Festival, 2015 will be held continuous 3 days. Along with it Mizoram Bamboo Day, 2015 will also be held and the same was inaugurated today by the Governor at Lengpui Centre of Excellence.
The Governor also on the occasion released “Mizoram Mau Chanchin” a book on 37 varieties of Mizoram Bamboo.
Expressing his felt privilege to grace Anthurium Festival, the Governor said it is consistent that a festival is organised in the name of Anthurium, the flower through which many of the Mizos are earning huge money.
The Governor called for making the most use of the Bamboo Day too, saying, it would be good to use it for generating income through the visiting tourists.
The grand display of the Mizo culture, traditions, attires, music and dances during Anthurium festival would make it greater and greater and would more and more attract foreign tourists. This demands more effort on the part of the organizers in particular and the Mizos as a whole, the Governor said.
It is also necessary that due hospitality towards is shown towards the tourists and a cordial treatment in such a manner as they would cherish the memory of it, the Governor advised. Tourism Secretary V.Lalremthanga hosted the Day 1 programme of Anthurium Festival today while Governor Lt.Gen(Rtd.) Nirbhay Sharma was the Chief Guest.
As in other years, the visitors of Anthurium Festival even on the first day today were enthralled by the grand display of anthurium flowers and by the great variety of entertainment programmes.
Around 58 stalls have been opened up which includes those from neighbouring States- Tripura, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
