Aizawl, Oct 5: Kayakalp Awards were given away today here at Chaltlang Tourist Lodge Conference Hall in the presence of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla.
Aizawl Civil Hospital came in the first position was given the first prize carrying Rs.50 lakhs plus citation.
Kolasib district hospital came in the second and was given Commendation Award carrying Rs.3 lakhs plus citation.
Mamit district hospital came third and was given citation.
Kayakalp Awards scheme is part of Swatchh Bharat Abhiyan and it aims at promoting cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health care facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla said that judging from all India level Mizoram has quite improved in cleanliness.
CM said in his speech that this is the time civil hospitals in the State are developed such that the need to refer patients to other places may be done away with. Steps are to be taken in order to own necessary equipment, he added. It is shameful that the government used to spend huge amount for medical treatment outside State, he said.
CM Hawla also on the occasion underlined the need of improvement in solid waste management. He called for making the most use of Kayakalp scheme in the same regard.
Health Secretary Lalhmingthanga also graced the Kayakalp Award ceremony.
