Aizawl, Oct 9: One Assam Type house in Lawngtlai in which four families were living collapsed this morning around 5 following heavy rains. Fortunately, there was no report of casualty, official report said. The house located near Helipad, Lawngtlai III and belongs to Zothanmawii.
The uppermost floor of Zothanmawii house adjoining main road was occupied by Darrimawii and family, who owned a variety shop in the same house. Just below it lived two families and below them lived one person. The owner of the house Zothanmawii and her family resides in another house further below upon which the collapsed house tumbled.
Reaching the spot soon after the collapse of the house, Lawngtlai DC J. Hmingthanmawia assured all possible help from the government towards the victims. Necessary steps shall also be taken quickly, he said. The District DC also on the spot gave Silpaulines and Rs. 2000 to the fellow villagers who voluntarily help the victim families clearing the debris for their lunch expense.
The total worth of material loss is yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, the occupant of the uppermost most floor of the house Darrimawii roughly estimated that the varieties at their shop would be around Rs. 1 lakh. The worth of other materials in the house is difficult to know as of now, she said.
Fellow residents of Lawngtlai III and other localities set out voluntarily to dismantle the collapsed house and the clear up the debris. They were later joined by Lawngtlai III Branch YLA and VC who organized social work the whole day.
The official report said that there were reports of landslides and earth cracking from several localities of Lawngtlai town following heavy rains yesterday and the day before yesterday nights.
DC J. Hmingthanmawia has sent for Lallawmawma, SDO Sadar and Disaster Management teams to take up necessary works and he himself visited the places, it mentioned.
