Aizawl, Feb 23: State Supervisory Board under the leadership of its Chairman, Health Minister Lal Thanzara today held meeting at Chief Minister’s Conference Hall here.
It was mentioned in the meeting that as per ‘the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) (Six Months Training) Rules, 2014’ of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, non-specialist doctors who are to use ultrasound device will now need to get through an exam after completion of 6-month Competency Based Assessment training. For this certification, Aizawl Civil Hospital is the only Accredited Institution in Mizoram.
From 2017 onwards, those not certified by Aizawl Civil Hospital even if they have completed training in other States, shall not be permitted to use any ultrasound device within Mizoram, it was said.
State Supervisory Board Secretary, Dr. Lalbiakkima, Hospital and Medical Education Director have report in the meeting on how PC&PNDT Act is followed in Mizoram.
State Nodal Officer Dr. Lalnunsiama also reported on the steps that have been taken for Competency Based Assessment and mentioned that necessary things relating to conduct the exam has been almost set ready.
The resolutions in the previous meeting and how the same have been carried out were also reviewed in the meeting today.
Law & Judicial Department and Social Welfare Department representatives said that while Mizoram is in among those who are in better position regarding sex ratio as of now, it is but necessary to intensify spreading the awareness of it for further progress.
State Supervisory Board under Health & Family Welfare was set up on July 17, 2015. It holds meeting after every 4 months and submit report of the same to the central government.
