Aizawl, Aug 4: In a bid to make the people more aware of HIV/AIDS and the prevention from the disease thereof, Champhai District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee (DAPCC) today in its meeting chalked out a plan to organise Instruction on HIV/AIDS at least 16 hours in a year by the educational institutions in the district besides Awareness Campaign by NGOs and Churches.
The meeting of District AIDS Prevention and Control Committee was held under the guidance of the Committee Chairman H Lalengmawia IAS, Champhai DC at Champhai DC Conference. Underlining the need to check the spreading of HIV/AIDS, Chairman H Lalengmawia called for more Awareness Campaigns by NGOs and Churches. It is necessary that children are instructed on HIV/AIDS, besides the adults, he said.
Dr Zonunmawii, DPM, DAPCU, who gave a report in the meeting on the status of Champhai on HIV/AIDS and the different measures taken in the fight against disease, also underlined the need to take steps in a vigorous way.
She mentioned in her report that Champhai is one of the two districts that makes Mizoram have high rate of HIV/AIDS Positive.
Dr Zonunmawii called on the NGOs, Police and Excise Department besides the various government Departments in the district to cooperate in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
At present, 989 people are registered at ART Centre in Champhai District.
