Aizawl, Jan 7: Led by chief minister Lal Thanhawla, a meeting over Sansad Aadarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) and Swachh Bharat Mission was today held by MP and MLAs here in the capital.
Lal Thanhawla who presided over the meeting said that the first important step in the creation of model village under SAGY is to conduct baseline survey wherein priority should be given to the needs of the village community or society.
He said that people should be made involved and officials should have work with them in the process.
He added that monetary requirement for the development and maintenance of model village should be drawn out of the existing schemes as there is no allocated fund for said purpose.
According to the chief minister, three villages would be simultaneously selected for model village from 2019 and the first model village selected in the state before should be completed by 2016 as per the rules.
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana is a rural development programme broadly focusing upon all round development in the villages which includes social development, cultural development and spread motivation among the people on social mobilization of the village community and the state rural development department is the nodal department, Lal Thanhawla said.
According to Lal Thanhawla, Mizoram performed far better than other Indian states as far as cleanliness campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission is concerned. He however, mentioned that Mizoram lags behind others in solid waste management.
According to the chief minister, towns in Mizoram as a whole occupied the 35th position among the 476 clean cities or towns selected in 2015. He added that measures are being underwent to make Mizoram the cleanest state in India on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Ghandhi by 2019.
