Aizawl, Aug 17: Following Supreme Court of India’s Interim Order issued on August 11, 2015 over Writ Petition (Civil) No. 494 of 2012, the Election Commission of India has today issued certain guidelines to be followed by each State.
It said that Feeding/collection/seeding of Aadhar Number under National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentification Programme (NERPAP) shall be stopped with immediate effect until further order.
Data shall not be collected further for Aadhar and the data already collected shall also not be used further for personal identification and others.
All the notification, advertisement and spreading of information to the people on Aadhar Number collection shall also be stopped. Even which has been displayed are to be taken off. It is the freedom of every elector to submit the Aadhar number under NERPAP; no one is forced to submit the same.
No one can be denied of his voting right even without possession of Aadhar number and the application for inclusion and deletion of name in Electoral Roll cannot be rejected due to non-possession of Aadhar.
Other works under the ongoing NERPAP excep collection of Aadhar number shall continue, the ECI notification said.
