Aizawl, Oct 8: Deaths/flu of the State animal- Serow has been reported from several parts of the State in recent time, following which Environment & Forest Department is now taking necessary steps for wildlife conservation and public safety, an official statement today said.
It had DFO, Lunglei Forest Division public notification which said that as per Order of PCCF, all the DFOs have been notified to keep watch if there is any death of Serow within their jurisdiction and give report at the earliest .
DFO, Lunglei Forest Division said that it received a notification from PCCF over the spread of suspected Serow flu from some parts of Northern Mizoram in the last part of August 2015, adding, all the ROs and VCs under Lunglei Forest Division have also been given order to keep watch over any death of the State animal within their jurisdiction.
DFO, Lunglei Forest Division said that carcass of Serow has been found recently within Tawipui forest and necessary steps are being taken by Forest Staff. Sample was also taken and handed over to Rapid Response Team, Southern Zone for necessary action, it said.
The people are asked not to panic over the death of Serow but if found report quickly to Forest Official. An investigative study is also being done by experts, it said, asking the people to be careful and avoid taking the meat of any wild animal, even other than Serow too.
