Aizawl, April 11: Governor Nirbhay Sharma today called on Aizawl Municipal Corporation leaders and Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Department officials at Governor’s Conference Hall, Raj Bhavan over ongoing initiatives and plans for development of Aizawl city.
Governor said that the initiatives for the welfare of the people should not be used for party politics.
In order that Aizawl Master Plan may be materialised, and for proper vehicular movement in Aizawl city, for healthier way of waste disposal and its processing, for better system of building construction, AMC has a lot to do, and a better cooperation with departments is necessary, Governor said.
Aizawl Municipal Corporation can be the best Municipal Corporation in India, he added.
Regarding systematic construction of building in the city and for maintaining restriction effectively, AMC need to consult with State Disaster Management Authority, Governor reminded, and added that Disaster audit is necessary to see whether each of the residential houses in Aizawl city is safe the people living in it and for others.
Governor advised AMC leaders to come up with plan for making Aizawl city less congested, adding that if step is not taken now, within short years, Aizawl city would be congested to the extent of being unlivable. Besides earthquake, it would be many times vulnerable to other natural disasters, he said.
It is necessary that the different government departments need to cooperate with AMC, Governor said. He further said that the initiatives within Aizawl city need to be taken in line with Aizawl Master Plan.
The meeting with the Governor was attended by P.C. Lalhmingthanga, Mayor, AMC, Rodney L. Ralte, Secretary to Governor, Kannan Gopinathan, Aizawl District Bawrhsap, Lalringliana, Deputy Mayor, AMC, Dr.H.Lalthlangliana, Municipal Commissioner and officials and engineers of UD & PA department.
