Aizawl, Aug 3: The launching of Green Line Express Bus service in the state capital slated for 3 August, 2015 was delayed as State Transport Authority (STA) opposed the idea following the Aizawl Municipality Council (AMC) and Aizawl City Bus Owners Association (ACBOA) move to hike bus fare.
The meeting convened by STA under the leadership of its chairman R.Hrangtawna over Green Line Express Bus service on last Friday decided that the kick off for Green Line Express Bus service should be cancelled for the time being. The meeting was attended by officials and members of Traffic, Transport, UD&PA and Aizawl City Bus Owners Association (ACBOA).
Speaking to media, STA chairman R.Hrangtawna said although the plans laid down by AMC seems to be good, the discretionary power to fix bus fare and arrange bus service rest with STA. “The service of Green Line Expressed has been cancelled for the time being as the decision to star bus service and hike its fare without prior permission from STA was illegal and that increasing bus services means bringing more traffic problems”, R. Hrangtawna buy gabapentin online from usa said.
Aizawl Traffic SP C.Lalthanmawia also said that it was legally wrong on the part of AMC to start new bus service and increase its fare without prior permission from STA while the responsibility of arranging bus service and fixing its fare rest with the latter. Introducing more bus services would possibly lead to more traffic jam in the capital, he said, adding that he believed traffic jam in the capital can be controlled and abated if AMC only execute collection of parking fee and the task of control of parking is given to traffic authority.
AMC and ACBOA in a joint venture have decided to launch Green Line Express Bus service in the state capital to redress the problem faced by common mass with respect to plying in the capital. The AMC’s decision to start Green Line Express from July 13 this year was tarnished when STA opposed the plan. Subsequently, AMC and ACBOA decided to launch the bus service from 3 August which was again objected by STA over hike in bus fare.
