Aizawl, Sept 23: The Hmar People Convention (Democrats) or HPC (D) has denied nexus with three alleged cadres who had been arrested by Mizoram police on 17 September and claimed that the three miscreants or cadres did not belong to its group.
The militant in a release said that the three cadres who had been arrested by Mizoram police on 17 September at Bilkhawtlir near Mizoram-Assam border allegedly while extorting money did not belong to H. Zosangbera led HPC (D) cadre. The arrested miscreants or cadres as claimed by HPC (D) were the henchmen of Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla and Home Minister R. Lalzirliana who had been hired to disgrace or distort the image of HPC (D) so that people reject or dislike the group.
“We announced before the people of ‘demand area’ that the three cadres who had been arrested at Bilkhawthlir village for allegedly extorting money were not the cadre of H. Zosangbera led HPC (D) group.
Three people indentified as Zairemkunga (50) s/o Thanghlei, Hmarkhawlien; Rokhuma (40) s/o Khumthanga, Saiphai and, Lalditthlang s/o Zohminglien, Lungthulien were arrested by Mizoram police on 17 September for allegedly belonging to HPC (D) militant. The militant were arrested at Bilkhawthlir near Mizoram-Assam border allegedly while extorting money from villagers.
The three arrested on August 17 from Bilkhawthlir, included alleged aides of the HPC(D) who were on their way to hand over Rs 12,000 to the HPC(D), police said.
The Mizoram police have launched a crackdown on HPC (D) militant since last year with the resumption of extortion, bombings and ambushes by the militant after the expiry of Suspension of Operation agreement between Mizoram government and H. Zosangbera led HPC(D) in 2013 and peace negotiations ran into a deadlock.
Following the crackdown, the Mizoram police have on 16 April arrested three HPC (D) cadres including self-styled Army chief Lalropuia Famhoite who is slapped with scores of criminal cases.
