Aizawl, July 27: In a heinous crime, a husband has allegedly burned his pregnant wife with kerosene oil following the altercation broke out between the couple over domestic on last Saturday. PT Lalbiakdiki D/o PT Lalbuaia was brutally burned by her husband Vanlalalthanmawia (23) S/o Biakthanga, who lives in a rented house at Sangau-I, Ramhlun veng. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the women pregnant with a 7 month old baby was burnt by her husband while she was preparing for a bed. She suffered a severe burn on her abdomen, neck and face. The victim was admitted to Sangau Public Health Centre (PHC), sources said.
Speaking to the reporters, the victim Lalbiakdiki said that she and her husband had burst out into strong argument last Saturday evening after which the victim’s family tried to take her back to their house. At this the husband pleaded mercy and asked them not to take her back saying that he would repent and change himself. After sometime when the couple was left by their family believing that no untoward incident will happen between the two, the husband then locked the door from inside, took out kerosene oil and brutally burned his pregnant wife while the latter was preparing for bed. The woman was however, saved by their enighbours who came to her rescue after hearing her scream.
Lalbiakdiki has sustained severe burn on her abdomen, neck and face and was admitted to Sangau Public Health Centre (PHC). She was referred to nearby Saiha hospital.
According to PHC Staff Nurse, the condition of a baby was critical as it remained motionless after the mother sustained brutal assault. Lalbiakdiki told reporters that her husband used to assault her physically even before this incident.
Vanlalthanmawia was arrested by Sangau police after FIR has been lodged at against him. The husband and wife has been marrying for 4 years and were already blessed with a 3 year old son.
