Aizawl, Aug 10: Minister of State for Disaster Management and Rehabilitation C. Ngunlianchunga said that the government would extend all possible help to the flood affected families of Vaseikai village in Lawngtlai District, the southernmost part of the state.
The Minister was on last Friday visiting 7 families in Vaseikai village which falls within his constituency who have lost their houses from the flood caused by heavy rains in recent time. He consoled them with a promise of all possible help from the government.
The Minister asked the unfortunate families not to worry as the government knows their problem and added that steps shall be taken so that they may get assistance for house construction.
The Minister on the occasion of his visit gave monetary assistance- Rs 3,000/- each and material assistance-2 nos. of Silpauline each to the flood-affected 7 families.
The Minister also gave Rs 2,000/- and one Silpauline to Vaseikai where to buy gabapentin for dogs YLA, and also one Silpauline to Vaseikai Lai Women Association.
Bungtlang South BDO Lalremruata Kullai, who accompanied the Minister, also gave one Silpauline each to the flood affected families and a monetary assistance to Lai Women Association.
The recent heavy downpour had made Tuichawng River, which is in the west of Lawngtlai District, flood, affecting Vaseikai village which houses about 200 families.
The heavy rain also caused landslide and the same has damaged 7 houses in the same village. Fortunately, no human life was lost. The only lost of life known was one pig that was believed to be taken away by the flood, Village Council members said.
Also, fortunately, the families who have lost their houses could save their household properties. The villagers at midnight helped them take their properties to safe places and also helped dismantle their houses.
