Aizawl, Feb 7: A well known Mizo singer and dramatist Liandailova Chhangte died of cancer at Aizawl Civil Hospital on Saturday. He was 58.
In 2004, the singer got tumour on his tongue and was found with cancer cases after being diagnosed in a hospital. Along with his relatives, he went to Christian Medical Collage, Vellore in November 2014 and got his tongue operated. Thereafter, he returned to Aizawl in January 2015.
On last Saturday the singer was taken to Aizawl Civil Hospital after he accidental fell down from a verandah near his room and died around 4:30 pm in the evening.
Born to Vanlalvena (L) and Lalthuami (L) on 22 November, 1958, Chhangte had a passion for music since his high school day. He was also a popular dramatist and under the leadership of Joseph Zokunga, they formed a band called ‘The Messengers’ and displayed musical drama with a theme ‘Down to Earth’ and Prodigal Son. The Prodigal Son is believed to be the first musical drama ever played in Mizoram.
Chhangte was an awardee of ‘Ainawm Pick Your Pop for Best Male Singer’ and the prestigious ‘Lelte Award’ for his outstanding contribution to music. The B. High Grade artist had also recorded several songs on AIR.
