Aizawl, March 21: Mizoram has been connected with the rest of the country by Broad Gauge railway line as broad gauge goods train, the first-ever broad gauge train to reach Mizoram, arrived in Bairabi at 1:00 PM today.
Transport Minister John Rotluangliana formally received the same. The goods train arrived with 2600 Metric- Ton of rice.
Speaking in a short function held on the historic occasion, Transport Minister John Rotluangliana the arrival of BG Train in Bairabi in the day was no doubt remarkable and it was a milestone of progress for Mizoram and the Mizo people.
He heaped praises on the railway authority and the workers for completion of the project within stipulated time. The BG line construction was planned to be completed by March 2016.
The Minister recalled that the previous one metre gauge train was unsatisfactory and said, “Now that BG Line has reached Mizoram, Mizoram would be able to keep pace in progress and development with other parts of the country”.
The Minister expressed his hope that the people of Mizoram would much benefit from the BG line as commodities would be transported a cheaper cost and accordingly price of commodities would become cheaper.
The Minister asked the locals- the people of Bairabi- to remember that they are the image of Mizoram and therefore deal faithfully and righteously with the people coming from other parts of the country and in a typical Mizo ways.
Also speaking on the occasion, TT Zothansanga Parliamentary Secretary, also said that Mizoram has got another Lifeline (Bairabi), besides Silchar. Kolasib MLA P.C. Zoram Sangliana and Kolasib DC H. Lalengmawia were also present on the historic occasion.
Railway Chief Administrative Officer A.F. Garut, who also spoke on the occasion, said that the ongoing construction of railway for upto Sairang is planned to be completed by 2019.
