Aizawl, Dec 15: Mizoram Consumers’ Union (MCU) today held its 19th Annual General Meeting at Central Hall, Venghlui here in the state capital Aizawl.
Parliamentary Secretary TT Zothansanga was the Chief Guest in the annual meeting which was attended by about 200 delegates from different villages of the State.
Consumer Awareness on Food Safety, Cable T.V Digitization and Telecom Service was also held during the meeting.
Parliamentary Secretary T.T. Zothansanga invited the delegates to sincerely work in their respective villages in order to make Mizoram a pleasant place through the consumers. Comparing the work of consumers with Bible Society, he said that their service is God’s service and called for putting effort anew.
The government on its part takes steps for the safety of the consumers, to solve their problem, and also continue to pay awareness campaign fund, Parliamentary Secretary said. President Thanglura spoke on Food Safety and Cable T.V. while Dr. Chawngsailova, General Secretary, spoke on Telecom Service and Electric at the annual meeting.
At the business session in the afternoon, several important resolution were passed which included grace period for payment date of Electric bill up to at least 30 days; increase of Forum/Commission members’ sitting allowance to at least Rs. 1000/-, urging the government harder on Food Safety, ensuring the benefit of consumers on Cable T.V digitization as TRAI rules, and taking steps to ensure provision of good quality rice to BPL and AAY families.
Election to MCU leaders for 2015-16 to 2018 was also held at the annual meeting today. Thanglura, Venghlui was elected President, R. Vanramchhuanga, Vice President, Rev. Darchungnunga, Vice President, Dr. Chawngsailova, General Secretary, and A. Lalhmangaihzuala, Treasurer.
