Aizawl, March 24: Mizoram government and Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed agreement today for ‘Capacity Enhancement for Sustainable Agriculture and Irrigation Development’ project.
On behalf of Mizoram government, Commisioner & Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, Minor Irrigation Department and leaders of the departments to partner JICA in the project namely- Minor irrigation, Agriculture, Horticulture and Soil & Water Conservation Department signed the agreement.
The agreement signing function which was held under the leadership of Chief Secretary Lalmalsawma, IAS, at Chief Secretary Conference Hall, was attended on behalf of JICA by Mr. Satoru Fujita, Team Leader and Dy. Director, Rural Development Department, JICA Head Office, Tokyo; Mr. Akihiro Kimura, Representative from JICA India Office, New Delhi; Mr. Shigeki Yamaoka, Consultant; Mr. Katsuyki Yamamoto, Consultant; Mr. Shigeko Sakai, Consultant-.
Team Leader Satoru Fujita, who explained on Project plan, said that for the first initiative under the Project, 4 RD Blocks – one village each from Bilkhawthlir, Aibawk, Serchhip and Champhai shall be selected and in the second phase, 3 or 4 villages from the 4 blocks shall be selected again.
JICA on their own expense had during September, 2013 to April 2015 conducted Development Study and has drafted ‘Master Plan’ for 20 years targeting progress of Mizoram in economic.
Through Technical Cooperation Project (TCP), Japan will collaborate with Mizoram government for 5 years for the success of the Master Plan.
