Aizawl, Oct 7: The government of Mizoram would implement Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers from December this years,Union Minister for Labour and Employment (independent charge) Shri Bahadur Dattatraya who arrived in Aizawl told media today.
Speaking to media in a press conference at State Guest House, Bahadur Dattatraya who is on his maiden visit to Mizoram said his primary purpose of visit is to discuss with the government officials about the pending issues and working condition of workers under the ESIC scheme.
He said that the central government has given priority to the NE region for the implementation of the scheme.
The ESIC scheme according to the visiting minister will cover 4 states in northeastern region including Mizoram to generate more employment opportunities, adding that the scheme also aims at promoting skill development and entrepreneurship.
The visiting union minister who arrived in Aizawl today told media that the ESIC would be implemented in Mizoram from December this year under which 10 bedded dispensaries and 30 bedded hospitals shall be set up.
Replying to media, Dattatraya said the centre has placed 20 seats reservation in medical college under ESIC scheme. He added that office building has been already finalized at Upper Republic in Aizawl which is believed to be function shortly after the implementation of the scheme.
ESIC is an autonomous corporation by a statutory creation under Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India tailored to provide socio-economic protection to worker population and their dependants covered under the scheme.
Accompanied by a host of L & E officials from Guwahati and Shillong, the visiting union minister met Governor Lt.Gen Nirbhay Sharma at Raj Bhavan. He also met Chief Minsiter Lal Thanhawla at the latter bungalow on the same evening. He will fly to Manipur on Thursday to meet the government officials.
