Aizawl, April 4: Mizoram needs an enlightened dictator to make Mizoram better and more advanced, former Mizoram Chief Secretary Vanhela Pachuau IAS (Rtd) said today.
He was addressing a function of the state anti-corruption watchdog Prism today at Prism Conference Hall here.
The former Mizoram CS said, “What have we done? Looking at India and other countries in the world, we are under the bondage of money.”
He continued, “Besides money and trade, the world fears something. In the same way, we also fear something in Mizoram. The people dare not come out and take action against what we see and know-our affliction and things that are wrong.”
“We fear to suffer so we suffer”, he said.
Pachuau further said that people in developed countries are efficient, free, and less corrupt, adding that among the Mizos today, there are very few people who are honest at heart. “Many people are corrupt without knowing they are corrupt”, he added.
While the wrongdoers have more supporters, the good and honest people are subdued, Pachuau said. He went on saying that the church community is afraid of the government because it used to have demands from the government, so dare not take action against selling of liquor. “For all these, more than democratic leader, we need an enlightened dictator”, Vanhela Pachuau said.
The gathering in the function after his speech discussed over the need of change in file movement of the government which is very slow; high authority of the government servants and their speedy promotion; creation of posts without any demand; and that, not the people, but the leaders are more responsible for making reform.
