Aizawl (Mizonews.Net): The women wing of the largest church denomination in Mizoram had raised objection to certain types of wedding dresses and outfits worn during church services.
The A Central Committee of the Women Wing of Presbyterian Church during its general assembly held recently had passed a resolution to issue a dress code during holy matrimony and also during church services. The committee said dresses should be “decent outfit” and not only the relatives of the brides and groom but well-wishers should maintain decency.
The women wing said that it regards the holy matrimony with utmost importance and honour but at the same time this is also a time to showcase one’s tradition and culture as has been done in most places across the country.
“In this regard, Mizos should also follow the same practice by wearing traditional outfits during the ceremony in and outside the church,” the women wing observed.
They also expressed concern over the bride’s dress like over-widening of the front and back. “People who come to attend the programme should also dress decently like the way they dress for a church service and also said that they were presenting themselves in front of God,” it said.
“The ordinance will be read out at various churches across Mizoram and it will bring a good result,” said assistant coordinator, H Lalpianthangi, Kohhran Hmeichhia (Women wing).
It may be noted that the Mizoram Presbyterian Church last year had snapped its ties with Presbyterian Church of the United States of America due to a conflict on the issue of homosexuality. The Mizoram Presbyterian Church was against the US-based church’s ordination of gays as priests.
