Aizawl, Oct 16: Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla today laid the foundation stone for Education Centre Building here today.
Laying the foundation stone, CM said that the site of the Education Centre Building which is within District Education Officer Office premises on the west side of DC office has been an important location and a centre of education since district council. This is a ‘red letter day’ for the Education Department, he said.
It is with the aim of enhancing world class and quality education that ‘Education Reforms Commission’ has been set up, CM said, adding, to materialize this aim, a huge amount of money was required and accordingly Planning Commission had shown much favour, but now has been scrapped. Now, NITI Aayog is pursuing the task, he said. It is thankful that a fund for the construction of this building is received from Special Plan Fund amid financial crisis, Chief Minister said. It is necessary that while planning for construction of any government building, the future generation is taken into consideration, CM said, appreciating the plan to construct motor parking lot and lift in the proposed building.
Moreover, it is very much necessary that emphasis is given on good infrastructure and quality developments, CM added.
Chief Minister conveyed his best wishes to education department for its future initiatives for progress in education.
Also speaking on the occasion, School Education Minister H.Rohluna said it is thankful that the oldest education office in the state is now to be renovated.
He said that the fund for construction of the Education Centre building Rs.800 Lakhs was approved in 2014-15 from Special Plan Assistance, and the fund has also been sanctioned now. Lushai Engineers, Ramhlun, Aizawl has been selected for its constructor and the construction would begin soon, as DEO and SDEO who occupied the aged building as office have left it, Education Minister said.
The building, after construction, will be used for DEO Office and SDEO Office- Aizawl East, West and South.
As per plan, the 85 ft x 41 ft building will have 4 floors besides 3 basements. Besides a lift, a parking lot for 12 LMVs and 60-70 two wheelers would also be constructed. Emergency exit and fire escape stairs shall be placed in each floor.
The foundation laying function which was held at the parking lots below MZP Office was chaired by School Education Director K.Lalthawmmawia, IAS while Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers, Parliamentary secretary and MLAs.
School Education Minister in his speech mentioned that plan is being made to construct education complex in Lunglei and Serchhip and it is also planned that DIET and hostel buildings are renovated, he added.
