Aizawl, Sept 16: As per plan, Mizoram will start implementing the National Food Security Act from November next. FCS & CA Minister John Rotluangliana said this today at the meeting held at his office on National Food Security Act 2013.
The Minister asked for selection of only genuinely poor people for the beneficiaries of the Food Security Act, keeping aside favoritism along party lines.
Barely one and a half months left now for the implementation of the Act, he also asked for the people’s cooperation with the FCS & CA Department workers.
As said in the meeting today, the National Food Security Act will cover only 7, 06,296 persons. Based on 2011 Census, it will cover the existing 26,810 AAY families. The total 128,114 persons from these AAY families will receive 35 Kg per month @ Rs. 3/Kg.
The rest 578,182 selected beneficiaries will receive 5Kg per month @ Rs. 3/Kg.
With this, The Food Security Act shall cover 81.88% of the population in rural area and 48.60% in urban area.
TT Zothansanga, Parliamentary Secretary, FCS & CA a Secretary Hrangtawna, IRTS, FCS & CA Department Officers and NIC officers and staff were present at the meeting.
