Aizawl, Aug 11: Mizo National Front (MNF) President Zoramthanga on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking the latter to extend aid to flood affected Zo ethnic communities in Myanmar.
In his letter, Zoramthanga has stated that the recent catastrophic flood and landslides in neighbouring Myanmar had caused untold hardship and misery to the people of that country. A lot of people lost their lives and thousands and thousands of homes were destroyed and washed away by massive flood.
The president added that in the nearby areas bordering Mizoram the sympathetic plight of the people is pitiful. In response to the call of the need of the hour, the people of Mizoram launched a massive project of assistance in the form of financial and other forms of aid for the flood and landslides victims. Non-Governmental Oganisations, Churches, political parties and all groups of organizations are now busy in collecting donations for the victims.
“With these backdrop in the scene, I request the Government of India to do the utmost by giving financial aid and other forms of assistance to our neighbouring Myanmar so as to enable the poor people to start a new phase of life”, Zoramthanga said in his letter.
