Aizawl, Aug 20: Along with rest of India, MPYCC, the youth wing of ruling Congress today celebrated the 71st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and planted tree sapling at New Secretariat Complex, Khatla here in Aizawl in remembrance of the slain Prime Minister.
Speaking at the function held during tree planting, MPYCC President and Chiarperson, Mizoram State Women Commission, Vanlalawmpuii Chawngthu who is also a legislator from Hrangturzo constituency said that Gandhian family has great affection for the people of Mizoram due to which an intimate relationship was developed between Gandhi family and the people of Mizoram.
Former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi according Vanlalawmpuii was very close to the Mizos and he was the person who used to visit even the nook and corner of Mizoram during his life time.
Vanlalawmpuii said that the former Prime Minister had deep affection for the poor. Instead of ignoring them he would visit their home and sometime dine with them.
Lauding Rajiv Gandhi as the person who developed intimate relation with the Mizos, Vanlalawmpuii said he was a true leader and important person who was instrumental in the establishment of peace and tranquility in Mizoram. “Rajiv Gandhi was the one who gave peace to Mizoram and delivered the people from turmoil”, she added.
“On this day of his 71st birth anniversary we remember and value his great contributions for the society and planted tree sapling as a sign of tribute and commemoration to former Prime Minister”, Vanlalawmpuii said. The nation today fondly remembered former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 71st birth anniversary with President Pranab Mukherjee and other leaders paying tributes to him. President Mukherjee, Vice President Hamid Ansari, Rajiv Gandhi’s wife and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi along with former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid floral tributes at Vir Bhumi, the samadhi of Rajiv Gandhi.
