Aizawl, March 3: Mizoram State Planning Board held meeting today under the leadership of the Board Chairman Lal Thanhawla, Chief Minister, at Planning Conference Hall here.
In the meeting Chief Minister said that it is necessary to have a focus area with a proper strategy in order to make progress.
He said that Mizoram is fortunate to have the potential for tourism industry though there is no big industry, adding that innovative idea is needed to promote the existing resource.
He further said that tourists want to see the relics of Mizo forefathers as they are, and advised to preserve the same as they are without modification. Chief Minister also said in the meeting today that Kaladan Multi Modal Transport Transit Project would be much benefited by the North East, especially Mizoram.
He added that the Central Government and ASEAN countries are also much interested in it. Saying that skill development is also being carried out in the fastest manner, Chief Minister expressed thankfulness over the success being achieved through the state government flagship programme NLUP. The meeting today discussed ‘New Economic Development Policy’ made by the government for progress, sufficiency, and for the further success of NLUP. The discussion in the meeting includes Cooperating with the cultivators under agriculture and allied sectors using the fund from NLUP, Centre and the State with focus on selected crops and construction of link roads.
The need to expedite the initiative on Bamboo and handloom, handicrafts and agro-based processing was also underlined.
As regards infrastructure development, proper plan may be chalked out for roads, bridges, power, ICT and sanitation & sewerage, the meeting decided. The State Planning Board also finds it good to make cooperation with with individuals in Agriculture and related endeavors and also make policy guidelines for the initiatives in Social service sector and have a focus area.
Regarding financial management, the State Planning Board recommends to have ‘Public Financial Management Reforms’ in the state government, district council, Aizawl Municipal Corporation, rural & urban local bodies.
Mizoram State Planning Board has 17 members including 11 officials from the government, 3 expert members and 3 non-official members.
