Aizawl, Feb 25: The Aizawl based anti-corruption watchdog, People Right to Information and Development Implementing Society of Mizoram (PRISM) on Thursday strongly asked the state government to immediately repair the bailey bridge over Tlawng river and demanded punitive action against those who committee false in connection with the construction of permanent concrete bridge beside the bailey bridge.
Led by its president Vanlalruata, Prism on Wednesday visited and inspected the bailey bridge which collapse on 2 December last year killing one and injuring one other.
The anti-corruption watchdog observed that people who live along Aizawl to Lengpui Airport and Mamit district have been badly affected by the collapse which resulted in wastage of money and time.
It appealed to the state government that the bailey bridge be repaired immediately and speedy measure should be taken to commence the construction of the permanent bridge.
According to Prism general secretary RL Liantluanga, the organisation alleged that the development of a huge cavity (caving) due to riverine erosion under the foundation of pillars of the permanent bridge has instanced negligence on the parts of officials and contractors before commencing the construction.
The organisation alleged that the concerned contractors or workers were not meticulous before starting the construction, Liantluanga said, adding the organisation also demanded punitive action against those who recklessly worked on the construction.
