Aizawl, July 31: Mizoram State Higher Education Council Meeting was held today at I & PR Conference Hall under the guidance of R. Romawia Minister, Higher & Technical Education.
Besides the initiatives taken under Rashriya Uchhatar Siksha Abhiyan (RUSA) Scheme, other agenda for the progress of Higher & Technical Education were discussed in the meeting.
R. Romawia highlighted in detail the initiatives that have been taken so far and which are still going on following the resolutions in the previous meeting.
Meanwhile, he informed the members of the State Higher Education Council that RUSA has not yet received projects as expected. He apprised the members how to take follow up steps.
Prof. K.L Pradhan, Member Secretary gave report on the different initiatives concerning higher education in the state in which he mentioned that, under RUSA, 21 colleges in the state has been given Infrastructure Grant 1st installment- Rs. 11.25 lakh each in recent time.
These colleges are supposed to receive Rs.200 lakh each during 12th Plan, he said.
He also mentioned that the DPR for up-gradation of Govt. Hrangbana College and Govt. Zirtiri Residential Science College to ‘Model College’ after Project Approval Board (PAB) has permitted to receive Rs. 400 lakh as per RUSA norms has also been approved.
Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi has sanctioned 1st Installment Rs. 45 lakh each to the two colleges, he added.
DPR has also been submitted for setting up of Mizoram Engineering College, for which RUSA, PAB allowed Rs. 2600 lakh.
Among others, the meeting also discussed, among other, inadequacy of teaching and Non-teaching staff under Higher Education and resolved to approach the government for recruitment of additional staff.
Besides the 3 Office Bearers and other 18 members of State Higher Education Council, representatives of different organisations (Academic Associations, Chamber of Industries, and YMA) and Higher Education experts from within and outside of the State also attended the meeting.
