Aizawl, Sept 23: State Level Consultation on New Education Policy (on Higher Education) in pursuance of the Central Government’s initiative of formulating New Education Policy was held today here at I & PR Conference Hall.
This is the second round of State Level Consultation for the proposed New Education Policy. The first round of State Level Consultation was held on August 11, 2015 and the programme for District Wise Grassroots level Consultation chalked out. Discussion on the 20 selected themes for Consultation on Higher Education has also been held.
The State Level Consultation today, chaired by Higher & Technical Education Commissioner & Secretary, K. Lal Nghinglova, was attended by Higher & Technical Education Officials, District Nodal Officers and one teacher from each District, Mizoram Scholarship Board Secretary, MZU representative and NIC representative. This time, review of the Theme-wise recommendations from the Grassroots Level Consultations held in different Districts of the state was held. Besides, the selected 20 Themes for consultation on Higher Education were also discussed.
The Themes for consultation on Higher Education includes Governance reforms for quality; Ranking of Institutions and Accreditations; Improving the quality of regulation; Pace setting roles of central institutions; Improving State public universities; Integrating skill development in higher education; Promoting distance and open learning and online course; Opportunities for technology enabled learning; Addressing regional disparity; Bridging gender and social gaps; Linking higher education to society; Developing the best teachers; Sustaining student support systems; Promote cultural integration through language; Meaningful partnership with private sector; Financing higher education; Internationlaization of higher education; Engagement with industry to link education to employability; Promoting research and innovation; and New Knowledge.
The Theme-wise discussion decisions/recommendations from District Level and State Level Consultations are to be uploaded in the website MyGov.in.
The third round of State Level Consultation is scheduled for the third week of October next.
The initiative for New Education Policy is being carried out in three ways, namely- On line Consultation through MyGov.in; Thematic Consultation – Education Field involving Experts, Education Forum & Body and Ministry of human resource development workers; and Grass-root Level Consultation that includes Blocks, Districts and States.
After the consultation process at the State level is completed, it will go up to Zonal level, after which National Level Meeting will be held.
The formulation New Education Policy is expected to be completed by December this year.
