Aizawl, Feb 2: A state level convention of 10 years of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), a 100 day employment generation scheme launched by United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government led by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi back in 2006 was held today at Congress Bhavan, Golden Hall by the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC.
MPCC, general secretary Dr. L. H. Chhuanawma chaired the convention while MPCC vice president and minister for rural development R. Lalzirliana elaborated the steps that have been taken in connection with MGNREGA during the last 10 years. Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion include Minister R. Romawia, Speaker Hiphei, former minister and MPCC General Secretary C. Chawngkunga and former legislator and MPCC General Secretary K.T. Rokhaw.
Addressing the state level convention of 10 years of MGNREGA, speaker Hiphei said the policy of Congress buy gabapentin uk from the past has been aiming towards upliftment of the poor section of society and MGNREGA and Food Security are part of this programme. The speaker added that MGNREGA launched to uplift poor family in rural areas has been effectively profited by the rural mass of Mizoram.
The state Congress on the occasion also passed a resolution hailing the employment guarantee scheme introduced by former UPA government which aims at developing the poor section of society economically.
The ruling Congress slammed Narendra Modi led NDA or BJP government for allegedly altering central- state funding pattern and cutting down the allocation of fund under MGNREGA. The MGNREGA was launched in Saiha and Lawngtali districts of Mizoram in 2006 to generate 100 days employment for the economically poor people and schemed was launched in the entire districts of Mizoram in 2007.
