Aizawl, Nov 10: Election Officials who set out for Bru Transit Camp in Tripura to conduct hearing for Special Summary Revision there, as per direction of Election Commission, were halted for the second day in Mamit today by dissenting mob led by All NGOs and Political Party Coordination Committee.
Election Commission of India has directed to conduct Special Summary Revision, 2016 for the Bru community at their present place i.e. at Tripura Bru Transit Camp itself, but which is strongly opposed by all NGOs and Political Party Coordination Committee who stands firm with their point that there is no need to go there since the Bru refugees left Mizoram at their own will and further they don’t want to come back to Mizoram even after repeated calls.
The Election Officials, after they failed to pass through the dissenters, which included young and old, set out again today but were halted near DC Gate. The appeal made to the agitated mob on behalf of the election officials by Lalbiaksangi, Mamit District DC/District Election Officer and C.Lalnunmawia, Superintendent of Police, Mamit had no meaning.
Not only that the gathering mob outnumbered the Police on duty but since old persons and child carrying women were the ones who took the lead, the Police could not force through.
Meanwhile, All NGOs Coordination Committee and All Political Party leaders met with Lalbiaksangi, District DC at her office and said that they were determined to stand in their position till the last.
The matter has been put up to higher authority and reply thereof is awaited, official statement said, adding that Lalbiaksangi, District DC, C. Lalnunmawia, SP, Mamit and C.Lalsangluaia, SDO (Sadar) remains at the spot of agitation. The Election Party who set out to conduct Summary Hearing includes officials from Mamit, Lunglei and Kolasib District.
About 100 picketers from All NGOs and Political Party Coordination Committee, Mamit, Central YMA OB, MZP and MSU are also kept on duty day and night near DC Office Gate to prevent the Election Officials from going to Bru Transit camp.
Despite smooth preparation, the agitating mob was too large to pass through, official report today mentioned.
