Aizawl, July 2: An indefinite road block on National Highway has been called by villagers of Maubawk in Saiha district under the aegis of Maubawk, Joint Action Committee (JAC) in protest against the government’s decision to close down rice Godown at Maubawk.
The JAC decided to stage indefinite rock blockade at Maubawk Zero point on National Highway 54 –Saiha to Aizawl and Saiha to Tuipang from 5 August, 2015. The bold decision was taken in protest against the government’s decision to close down 5 Godowns in 4 district of Mizoram.
Department of Food and Civil Supply under govt. of Mizoram had on July 22 issued an order to close down 5 godowns at Maubawk (Saiha district), Lallen (Mamit Dist), Mimbung (Champhai Dist) , Hortoki and Saipum (Kolasib Dist) as part of measure to abate financial crisis. The decision for closure of godowns came as measure to lessen government expenditure on transportation. Besides, inadequacy of staff and favourable location of the villages that they are within a reach of good road also prompted the decision for closure, according to government order.
Meanwhile, Maubawk JAC has asked the support from public and Vehicle Owners Association and drivers plying on the designated road.
