Aizawl, Feb 16: Necessary works are being carried out in full swing to open up Medical College in the State soon. Health Minister Lal Thanzara said this today in a meeting of Health Department senior officers under his leadership at Chief Minister’s Conference Hall.
He said in the meeting that the work for upgradation of State Referral Hospital, Falkawn is being carried out in the fastest manner.
Steps are taken to meet the norms of Medical Council of India, he added, mentioning that at least 250 beds needs to be there in the hospital for Medical College and at least 400 people needs to get checked up in the Out Patient Department (OPD) daily.
Also, more doctors and staff are kept, and the number of patients is also increasing at a fast rate, Health Minister said.
It is not true that Aizawl Civil Hospital is to be downgraded since declared District Hospital. There is no plan as such, he said and added that steps are rather taken vigorously to further upgrade the hospital.
In the ongoing work of upgrading Aizawl Civil Hospital, a ward with one Operation Table and 6 beds in Dental Unit, a ward in Cardiology Department with 10 beds, and State Medical Library are near to open up, Health Minister Lal Thanzara said.
The very ongoing construction of 10-bedded Geriatric Ward and 14-room Semi Cabin; Plans to set up ICU (5 beds), construct 10-bedded Trauma Centre, purchase 2 new machines for Haemodialysis Unit, keeping 2 more beds in Sick Newborn Care Unit (SNCU), installation of Auto Analyzer in PPP mode for upgradation of Laboratory and, the installation of new machine in Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) – all tells of the further upgradation of Aizawl Civil Hospital, Health Minister added.
Lal Thanzara also said that Aizawl Civil Hospital shall further be used for Nurses Training Centre, DNB (Post Graduate Course) and MBBS internship and also that, while being District Hospital, Aizawl Civil Hospital shall continue to be Super Specialty Hospital.
Health Commissioner Lalrinliana Fanai, Principal Director Dr.K.Ropari, Director Health Services, Director Hospital & Medical Education and other officers attended the meeting today.
