Aizawl, Oct 28: Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), Aizawl today felicitated Mizo Human right activist Lalchhuanzuali @ CZ Ralte for winning the prestigious Mary Robinson award.
CZ Ralte, a young woman from the most economically marginalized community of a remote NE state-Mizoram received the award on 11 October during 28th World YWCA Council held in Bankok in recognition of her showing formidable courage in envisioning a dream for her community of HIV positive women. Being HIV positive herself she developed innovative strategies and programmes locally by building advocacy, human rights, education awareness and leadership training with communities ranging from commercial sex workers. Her passion and commitment for her work has impacted over 5000 children, 10,000 adults, 500 religious leaders and institutions and over 100 teachers and health workers ensuring that they carry forward strong message and advocacy, human rights violation, prevention, treatment and skills development.
She was the first Indian to receive the prestigious award.
