Aizawl, Oct 27: Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP) has decided to forge electoral alliance and work with Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) in view of the upcoming election to Aizawl Municipality Council (AMC) and Lai Autonomous District Council (LADC), ZNP chief Lalduhoma said.
In his interview to media, Lalduhoma said that an agreement has been already made with the BJP to forge electoral alliance although it has not been officially announced. “The decision of the electoral alliance came as the United Democratic Front (UDF) or opposition parties decided to go them alone or joined hands with the ruling Congress in the upcoming elections,” he said.
Lalduhoma said that he had earlier come up with a proposal before the MNF whether they would join hands for the forthcoming AMC and MDC election. “While we were waiting for positive reply from them, it was sad to learn that they (MNF) have decided to go it alone,” he said, adding that the MNF has more or less confirmed its candidates for each ward. 8 opposition parties including MNF, ZNP and MPC formed pre-poll alliance in the last Lok Sabha election in 2014. This political alliance was called ‘United Democratic Front (UDF) formed apparently against the ruling lone Congress.
ZNP president said that they were sometime looking for better cooperation with other opposition parties in the forthcoming elections. “While there were mutual agreement and environment to join hands for the elections, we were unfortunate to learn Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) joining hands with Congress and MNF going alone”, he said.
He added that with the decision of MNF to go it alone and MPC to work with Congress, ZNP party has finally decided to join hands with the national party believing that it would provide people better opportunity for better development.
Lalduhoma said that he had already talked to and informed BJP leaders in Delhi about the intended political alliance. “The leaders were very happy and excited about that,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC) has said that it has formed alliance with the ruling Congress in the coming by-poll in Aizawl North III assembly seat and the elections to AMC.
MPC president Lalhmangaiha Sailo said that his party has settled electoral alliance with Congress for the AMC election by dividing candidates on ward wise between them.
He added that MPC would give an all-out support to Congress candidate Lal Thanzara in the upcoming by-poll in Aizawl North-III assembly seat.
