Aizawl, Nov 18: Mizo National Front (MNF) president Zoramthanga on Wednesday lashed out at former health minister Lal Thanzara saying he was treating the people with impudent contempt by contesting again the assembly seat which he vacated following his resignation over his own fault or committing offences.
Speaking to reporters over Lal Thanzara’s resignation, Zorama during a press conference, said he quickly resigned from the cabinet as well as a legislator with a hope to lessen the punishment which he is sure to meet for infringement of section III (9-A) of the Representation of the People’s Act, and Code of Conduct for Minister Clause 2(c).
Zoram alleged that Lal Thanzara held 21.6 percent share in Sunshine Overseas Company and he was awarded various contracts by his brother Lal Thanhawla while he was still a legislator, parliamentary secretary and a minister of state.
HP Foods, a company owned by Lal Thanzara also supplied high protein biscuits to Social Welfare department while he was still a minister and a legislator, Zorama added.
“The fact that Lal Thanzara contesting again the assembly seat which he vacated after resigning over his misdeed or offences is somewhat looking very odd,”Zorama said, adding if he (Lal Thanzara) had contested in other country, he would have been brought down or not voted to power by people for showing contempt to them.
Hitting out at Lal Thanhawla’s comment that the health minister resigned to be probed freely, Zorama said while a probe has been just initiated against him, Lal Thanzara tried to contest the bypolls which otherwise has rubbished the comment that he resigned to be probed freely.
On the statement by the Chief Minister that his brother would be vindicated by the people’s court, Zorama said “Criminal cases or violation of laws are never tried in the people’s court through votes but in the courts of law.”
“The two brothers have treated the people as ignorant and with contempt. They have to be taught a lesson and be brought down”, Zorama said.
Zorama further alleged that the ruling Congress has liabilities of over Rs 250 crore dues to individual and private companies in the past two years. “In 2014 and 2015 the Congress has over Rs 500 crore and Rs 900 crore liabilities. If this trend continues the state government is likely to have Rs 1500 crore liabilities after the completion of another three years term which would be difficult for the succeeding government to repay all the liabilities within one year,” he said.
He said that the Congress did not know how to solve the prevailing financial crisis and the only solution evolved by it was selling liquor. “The government liabilities has increased by 10 percent during Congress rule”, he added.
“While the state government receives only 10 percent as revenue, 90 percent of Mizoram’s wealth goes to other parts of India by the sale of liquor”, Zorama said, adding Congress has completely failed in financial management”, he said.
Zorama also alleged that the ruling government has scheduled the date of polling for AMC and LADC polls two days after counting of votes for Aizawl North – III bypolls which was ostensibly a ploy to affect the next elections. “On believing that Lal Thanzara would surely win the bypolls, Congress has urged the ECI to schedule the date for AMC and LADC polls on 26 November, two day after declaration of bypolls results to have impact on the next elections”, he alleged.
Opposition sitting MLA Lalruatkima who accompanied Zoramthanga in a press meet also said Congress did not generate even 1 MW of power during 7 years.
